Three extra tips: Stretch wet shoes at home with an unpainted wooden stretcher or stuff them with newspaper and place them in front of the heater. Not on it! Special cleaners from the drugstore are best for removing snow marks. Do not use skin cream instead of shoe polish - it contains too much grease.

Made of leather

A soft brush removes coarse dirt. Then spray on waterproofing spray and leave to dry. Apply shoe polish in a suitable color to protect against creases and cracks. Then polish with a polishing brush. For smooth leather, rub with an onion half to give it a great shine.

From textiles

Alcohol helps with stubborn stains. Some models can also be machine washed on a cold cycle. Black streaks can be easily removed with a dirt eraser. Spray with a waterproofing spray every six weeks or so.

With varnish

Always store with shoe trees to avoid creases. Clean with a slightly damp cotton cloth without detergent. A waterproofing spray is not necessary for patent leather.

Synthetic

A soft cloth and a little water are sufficient to clean the shoes. To avoid cracks in the upper material, treat with special synthetic foam from the drugstore. Shoe polish is not helpful here as it would not penetrate the material.
