A carpet has to put up with a lot. Everyone tramples on it carelessly, puss and dog hair all over it, the kids spill chocolate all over it and then the man of the house christens it with red wine. This can make the best piece look a bit old in the long run, and then it's time for a freshen-up. We'll tell you how to clean your carpet. Do it yourself is the order of the day!
Clean your carpet properly
- Carpet powder: It's quick and easy because you just sprinkle the granules on, brush them in with a scrubbing brush and vacuum them up after about an hour. This method is suitable for all carpets that are sensitive to moisture. High-pile velour, coarse loop pile or sisal are excluded.
- Wet foam: Ideal for thorough deep cleaning, which every carpet needs after five to eight years. However, always test whether the carpet is waterproof in an inconspicuous area first. If possible, clear out the room beforehand, protect furniture from moisture and wrap metal feet in foil, otherwise you risk rust stains. Apply the foam in strips, then brush it in with circular movements. Vacuum thoroughly after drying.
- Special case sisal: These carpets easily get water stains. Therefore, always soak up spills immediately with cloths. It is also advisable to blow-dry the carpet or apply a drying granulate to a cloth. It is better not to use standard household powders as they are difficult to remove.
- Hardness cases: For very sensitive floors, thorough cleaning by a professional is recommended.
