We spend around a third of the day on our mattress. Naturally, sweat and dander end up on it - and house dust mites spread inside. You should therefore carry out a general cleaning once or twice a year.
Preparation
Before getting down to business, the mattress should be vacuumed. Attach an upholstery brush and work on both sides.
Clean the mattress using the wet method
Dissolve around 200 grams of baking soda in a bucket of hot water, dip a soft brush in it and rub the mattress. The brush must not be too wet. Then leave to dry in the sun if possible. This kills germs better. Vacuum the residue later.
Dry work
The baking soda can also be applied dry to the mattress and worked in with a brush. Leave for a few hours. The salt crystals also neutralize odours.
Stain-away tips
Here are the usual suspects: For coffee stains, use gall soap and lukewarm water. Urine stains can be treated with lemon and white vinegar water. Act quickly with blood: Cold water helps. If it has dried up: apply a paste made from salt and lemon juice and remove with a kitchen towel after an hour.
Protective covers for mattresses
They save a lot of work. They can be removed regularly and machine washed at 60 degrees.
