Simply beautiful: soak in a hot bath and relax after a long walk. In our own little spa, our wellness oasis. To ensure that we can enjoy a little time out there in a relaxed manner, we should clean the bathroom regularly. Fortunately, there are a few tricks that can quickly eliminate the most common problems.
The shower wall is stained
Fresh limescale can be wiped off with washing-up liquid and a cloth. Stubborn deposits can be removed with kitchen paper and vinegar essence.
Shower curtains can be cleaned in the bath with a little hand washing detergent; some models are also machine washable. You can buy a well-rated model here.
The drain is blocked
If the drain is blocked, do not rush to tip any granules into the shower or washbasin, as this often attacks the drain pipe and blocks it even more. Better: tip a glass of washing-up liquid into the drain and seal the overflow. Place the suction cup on the drain and press it down. Let a little water in and move the rod up and down quickly.
Mirror fogs up quickly
Surfaces tarnish when moisture condenses on them after showering or bathing. Use a glass cleaner with an anti-fog effect from the chemist. Alternative: Rub the mirror with shaving foam, then wipe clean with kitchen paper. A shower squeegee is also ideal for removing the mirror.
The joints are moldy
If only a few light stains are visible, first try to loosen them with a sponge and bicarbonate of soda or a little alcohol. Then polish with a toothbrush or grout brush. It is better to avoid special anti-mold agents: They often contain harmful gases.
Taps are calcified
Wipe the taps with half a lemon. Vinegar cleaner (leave to work overnight if necessary) or chrome care also work well. You can prevent this by thoroughly wiping the tap dry immediately after each use, just like the shower head.
The tap is dripping
Limescale deposits are often the cause, so clean the tap strainer thoroughly first. If this does not help, the rubber seal should be replaced - it becomes porous over time. If you don't dare to do this yourself, it's best to call a plumber. If there is a lot of dripping, turn off the water supply until the plumber arrives.
The toilet smells
Have you just cleaned, but it still smells unpleasant? If the drain is blocked, work on it with a plunger. Otherwise, this great trick will help: put a few drops of essential oil on the inside of the toilet roll. Hang up the roll - the scent will last for days.
The tiles are dull
Do the walls and floor look rough and dull? Polish the surfaces with a mixture of water and vinegar essence in a ratio of 2:1. Another particularly gentle option: add a good dash of shampoo to the cleaning water. You can also use a steam cleaner to clean the tiles. There is a well-rated model here.
The bathtub is dull
If it is made of ceramic or porcelain, you can clean it with bath cleaner or scouring milk and polish it with a towel. The same applies to the washbasin. However, if it is made of cast mineral, it will not tolerate acidic cleaners. In this case, it is best to clean with water and a soft microfiber cloth.
The drain smells
Over time, soap residue and hair get stuck in the drain, which cannot be removed with a superficial cleaning of the strainer. However, you don't have to resort to chemicals straight away: it is better to clean the drain regularly with a mixture of vinegar and baking soda, which is simply poured down the drain. After letting it soak in for at least half an hour, turn on the tap and flush the drain. Regular use of this household remedy dispels odors and prevents blockages.
