DVBT-T2 starts on March 29

March 29 marks the end of an era in Germany, as television as we know it will no longer exist. From today, DVB-T reception will be gradually switched off throughout Germany and DVB-T2 terrestrial television will take over. This changeover will bring two major changes for all those households that previously received their TV program via DVB-T, which we will briefly explain here.

What you need for DVB-T2

First of all, you will need new hardware. You can still use the aerial you have been using, but you will need a new receiver that supports DVB-T2. These are available from electrical or TV retailers from around 35 euros. When purchasing the device, you must ensure that the green DVB-T2 HD sticker is present. With these devices, you can receive up to 20 public television channels. If you want to continue to use the private channels, such as RTL, Pro7, Sat1 and others, the device must also have the Freenet logo.

The private television channels, such as RTL, Pro7 and Sat1, will only broadcast their programs in encrypted form from now on. If you also want to watch these channels, you must become a Freenet customer . This means that in future you will also have to pay around €6 per month, billed annually.
