Fixed-term contract: When should you report to the employment agency?

Michael B., Darmstadt, asks:

I have a temporary position until the end of October. There is a prospect of an extension, but I have not yet been promised one. When do I have to register with the employment agency at the latest?

Idee für mich answers:

It is your duty as an employee to register with the employment agency as a jobseeker at least three months before your employment ends. You are on the safe side if you do this in good time, even if you then receive a contract extension. However, it can also do no harm to point out the deadline pressure to your employer in a friendly manner, and you may even receive a commitment in good time
