Fine wool garments
Wool garments do not forgive incorrect washing, so be sure to follow the care instructions, otherwise they will become matted and shrink. As they are particularly sensitive to temperature, wash at a maximum of 30 degrees on the wool or hand wash program (every modern washing machine has one). Thanks to the low spin speed, sweaters & co. keep their shape. However, be sure to use wool detergent to protect the fibers.
Tip: Add a little fabric softener to help the items dry faster. Pull particularly delicate items into shape when wet and dry flat on a towel.
Soft fleece (synthetic)
As fleece textiles are made from synthetic fibers, they are very easy to care for. However, they cannot withstand high temperatures. Wash on a gentle cycle at 30 degrees with liquid color detergent. Adding fabric softener prevents electrostatic charging.
Fluffy down
Textiles filled with feathers should only be washed if this is permitted according to the care label and you have a tumble dryer in the household. This is because the delicate down clumps together when wet. In the dryer, however, they become fluffy again thanks to the tennis ball trick. So be sure to check the laundry symbols and their meaning beforehand! Shake out and hang up jackets after washing.
Functional textiles
You can usually machine wash wind and rain jackets as well as sports and ski clothing yourself. However, special detergents for high-tech textiles are often required to wash this type of laundry properly. To ensure that the moisture protection is not lost, impregnate after washing: Only use sprays outdoors or use one-wash impregnators.
Fine silk
Cool in summer, warm in winter - that's why silk scarves or undergloves are so popular. Be sure to read the care instructions for cleaning. The natural material usually only tolerates mild detergents. After washing, hang up dripping wet and iron inside out.
