Life hacks that make your everyday life easier

A firm grip at all times

It can quickly become dangerous: We're chopping vegetables on a board, but it suddenly slips away. To prevent this from happening, simply wrap rubber bands around the sides.

Shine rub

To make copper shine again, rub the material with a lemon half. It is best to sprinkle a little salt on the half beforehand.

No more tangling

Don't want to wind parcel tape from a roll all the time? Then put it in a screw-top jar, prick a hole through the lid and pull the tape through.

Coffee food for plants

Coffee grounds contain important nutrients such as potassium, phosphorus and, above all, nitrogen - which is why they are an excellent fertilizer for our plants, both indoors and outdoors.

Against lump formation

Unfortunately, sugar in storage jars often forms small lumps due to moisture. A little dry bread helps against this - it draws the moisture out again.

View-proof

It's unpleasant when we notice small "peepholes" forming along the button placket of our blouse. To prevent this, simply stick a piece of double-sided adhesive tape inside. Of course, this also works for men's shirts.

Gold cleaner

It's annoying when our good pieces of jewelry tarnish and become dull. Dissolve a denture cleaner tablet in a glass of water and leave the jewelry in it for a few minutes. Then rinse and rub dry well.

Key aid

To make it easier to distinguish between several keys that look similar, paint the upper part of each key with different colored nail polish and allow to dry thoroughly. But be careful: never paint the "beard", i.e. the prongs, of the individual keys.

Knife sharpener

Cutting is getting tedious? There's a quick trick for this too: ceramic or porcelain mugs have an unglazed stand ring on the underside. Draw the blade of the blunt knife over it several times and from both sides with a little pressure. Only do not use this on serrated knives.

Pouring aid

When pouring, hold the Tetra Pak upside down so that the opening is at the top: this allows the air to flow in easily, the pouring stream is even and nothing spills.

Parcel opener

Need to send a gift to friends? Then it's a great help for the recipient if we place a string lengthwise under the adhesive tape before taping the parcel shut. The tighter the string, the better. The parcel can then be easily pulled open again.

Sneaker shine

Rub the dirty rubber edges with a toothbrush and some toothpaste and scrub thoroughly as required. Rinse the toothbrush clean and use it (or some kitchen paper) to remove the toothpaste from the shoe.
