Ironing without an iron: How to get your laundry smooth anyway

Around 39 percent of Germans consider ironing to be the most annoying household chore - yet they spend an average of three hours a week at the ironing board. But there are some great ideas on how to reduce the time and effort involved. You can iron without an iron! How? Like this!

You don't necessarily need an iron for ironing...

Spin less, shake more

Shirts and blouses in particular are a pretty annoying challenge when ironing. But even these wrinkle monsters can be ironed without an iron! You just need to bear the following in mind: When washing shirts and blouses, set the spin cycle to 800 revolutions - this is gentler on the textiles, plus they come out of the drum still damp and malleable. Shake out the clothes vigorously and then hang them up smoothly and without creases. Ironing is often no longer necessary.

Clever use of the tumble dryer

If several items of clothing that you want to wear soon are heavily creased, take an atomizer and spray them with water. Then put the laundry in the dryer. Approximately 10 minutes is sufficient, after which you can get the laundry out wrinkle-free. You can also put the laundry in the dryer together with a handful of ice cubes and leave it to work for 5 minutes on the hottest setting. This creates water vapor, which will remove the creases from your clothes in no time at all.

Put hot air to work

If you're in a hurry in the morning and discover any remaining creases in your blouse, use the following iron-without-ironing trick: hang it up near the shower or bath and briefly turn on the hot water to create steam - this will steam the laundry smooth. Alternatively, you can also moisten slightly crumpled areas on textiles with water from a spray bottle, then hang it on a hanger and blow-dry it smooth with a hairdryer from a distance of 5 centimetres on the lowest setting
