Socks are NOT loners
Mystery, strange freak of nature or simply an unexplained fact... Why do socks disappear in the washing machine? Do they do that at all or are we just imagining that at least one sock is left orphaned after every wash cycle and painfully misses its partner from that point on? No, it's not just a fantasy. And the culprit who is after our warm footwear has already been identified!
The washing machine is the culprit
We've always suspected it: our washing machine eats socks! Yes, it does indeed. And so it happens that socks disappear into the washing machine:
There is a rubber seal with an extra wide edge right on the washing machine door. This prevents detergent, water and the like from leaking out during the wash cycle. It is this rubber seal that steals our socks! This is because a sock can get caught in it during loading or during the wash cycle itself. The rotation pulls the sock further and further into the seal - never to be seen again.
Day of the lost sock
May 9 is dedicated to those lost socks that live out their lives as loners. This holiday commemorates single socks who mourn their lost partner.
To mark Lost Sock Day, we show you in the video how it actually comes about that so many socks have to go through life alone.
