Money & friendship: A little etiquette for a sensitive topic

Unfortunately, money and friends are always a tricky subject. Sure: picking up a bill for a friend or lending someone something - no problem. But sometimes the subject of money does lead to arguments. Here's how to prevent it:

Money and friends are always a mixed bag. Read here how to behave correctly.

Speak openly

Do you think the joint birthday present for your girlfriend is too expensive? Be honest and suggest a cheaper alternative. The others are sure to understand.

Be empathetic

Before you suggest a place to meet for dinner or a destination for a short trip together, think briefly about what the others can easily afford.

Pay back straight away

Has your friend left money out? Then make sure you pay it back as quickly as possible. Nothing is more unpleasant than having to talk to someone about it - especially when it comes to small amounts.

Keep the balance

It's great when friends invite each other out more often. However, it becomes difficult if there is an imbalance and one person hardly contributes anything. Everyone should therefore make sure they are balanced.

Say no sometimes

Your friend asks for money, but you're short of cash yourself? It's perfectly okay to say so.
