Perfect parquet care: how to clean the wooden flooring properly

Of course, it's easier to keep a wooden floor in good condition than a carpet. However, natural wooden floors are also demanding and parquet care should therefore be carried out with particular care. We'll tell you how to keep the material healthy and beautiful for longer.

You should be particularly careful when caring for parquet.

A wooden floor is not only a sign of good style - it also conveys warmth and regulates the room climate. These tricks will help you maintain your parquet perfectly:

Don't overdo it when cleaning

There are no detailed care instructions for parquet flooring. All you need is a vacuum cleaner or a broom. This will remove the coarse dirt, after which you can wipe over it with a slightly damp mop.

Always keep it nice and smooth

You should apply maintenance oil or wax to the parquet once or twice a year. But be careful: only use products that have been tried and tested for this purpose.

Getting rid of small scratches

If you discover small craters in the wooden floor, the parquet needs special care. Oil and wax are ideal for making small scratches disappear. Simply apply to a soft cloth and rub over the rough area until everything is nice and smooth again. Alternatively, you can also buy a special repair kit from a retailer. These usually consist of waxes and the necessary tools. Important: Don't wait too long, otherwise the damage will only get worse.

Extra tip: Walnuts work wonders on scratches. Rub the kernel with pressure over the scratched area. This causes small nut particles to settle in the grooves. The wood is oiled at the same time.

Sand and seal regularly

Parquet requires special care from time to time. Although there are sanding machines available to buy or hire from DIY stores, you can quickly grind dents into the floor with the machine. It is better to let a professional do this for you.

Removing small stains

Mayonnaise is the product of choice when it comes to removing water stains. Simply rub it in thickly, leave it on overnight - and then polish.
