Pay attention to hygiene right from the start
For daily use with normally soiled dishes, the eco program at 40 degrees is usually sufficient. To prevent bacteria from forming, select a wash cycle of at least 60 degrees approximately once a month.
Prevent odors during longer absences
If you are going on vacation, the machine should always be left empty and the door left ajar so that the residual moisture can escape completely and the dishwasher does not stink.
Clean the strainer and spray arms of the dishwasher properly
Food residues can quickly build up in the machine sieve. Remove the sieve according to the appliance instructions and clean by hand. Washing-up liquid dissolves greasy soiling. Also remove the spray arms of the dishwasher regularly and rinse with running water until all nozzles are clear again and it no longer smells.
Use special appliance cleaners in between
Drugstores or specialist retailers sell products that dissolve stubborn grease and dirt residues inside the appliance - even in the non-visible, water-bearing parts of the machine. Only ever use when the machine is idle and according to the manufacturer's precise instructions.
Also consider the door seal and housing of the dishwasher
Thoroughly remove food residues, grease and dirt stains on the outside of the dishwasher immediately with a sponge cloth, a little washing-up liquid and warm water.
Continue to use lemons sensibly
Squeeze half a lemon and put the peel in the basket for the cutlery. After one or two cycles with a normal load, the dishwasher will smell fresh again. Remove the peel.
Use the household remedy vinegar
If the dishwasher stinks, carefully spread half a cup of vinegar on the base of the appliance and run it through with dishes. Provides a fresh scent and removes deposits.
