Unfortunately, you can do a lot of things wrong when planting vegetables and the like!

1. sowing too early

When the first rays of sunshine draw us outside, the first thing we want to do is get our garden or balcony tidy and beautiful. But between March and May we can still expect frost on the ground, which is why the seeds often don't sprout. Vegetables that are sensitive to the cold should always be sown after the Ice Saints. Young plants that you have grown indoors should be watered with water at room temperature for the first few days and protected from the cold with a cover.

2. no spacing when sowing and planting

Plants and herbs need to be able to spread out, so it is important that you leave space when sowing. Of course, this also applies to flowers, shrubs etc. that you plant. Find out in advance how much space the plants, herbs, shrubs etc. need or how tall and wide they will grow and then make a plan. Even if the garden may still look a little bare in the beginning, give the plants the time and space they need to grow. Otherwise they will compete with each other for light and nutrients and the result will not be as desired.

3. wrong depth when sowing

"Just sow the seeds!" - Do you hear this phrase again and again when you buy seeds? So just throw the seeds on the ground or bury them deep? No, definitely not. Unfortunately, this point in particular is often dismissed as if everyone should know! Not only the distance is important for the successful growth of vegetables, flowers and the like, but also the depth. It depends on the type of plant. Remember the following rule of thumb: always use double the seed thickness as the sowing depth! Large seeds, for example, need to be about 2 cm deep in the soil, fine seeds about half a centimeter.

4. add fertilizer directly into the planting hole

If you put fertilizer directly into the planting hole, the plant may burn and die. Chemical fertilizer should therefore only be used after about six weeks. Tip: Organic fertilizer puts much less stress on the plants and can therefore be used much earlier!
