Load correctly
Only wash with a fully loaded washing machine. Rule of thumb: The machine is full when you can still turn your hand over the laundry. Exceptions: The drum should only be half full for delicates and only a quarter full for wool and silk. Always sort laundry by color!

No longer so hot
Thanks to modern detergents, you can avoid boiling laundry without hygiene problems to save money on washing. If you wash at 60 degrees instead, you save electricity and water and protect the laundry. To be on the safe side when it comes to germs (e.g. after infectious diseases), wash your laundry on the 60 degree program with a heavy-duty detergent - the bleach it contains reliably kills fungi and pathogens.

More time saves money
Modern appliances have eco programs that save additional energy at low temperatures - but they run for much longer. When buying a new machine, pay attention to the energy efficiency class (preferably A+++). This can save you a lot of money when washing.

What size should it be?
Even if the trend is towards 8 kg drums, consider whether you really need the load size - it's worth it for large families. Please note: The dosage information on detergents refers to 4.5 kg of dry laundry. You must always adjust the dosage to the amount of laundry and the hardness of the water.

Spinning and drying
If you hang up your laundry, lower spin speeds are sufficient - the laundry will not crease as much. If it goes into the dryer, a high speed (1400 or higher) is required - this saves the dryer running time and therefore electricity.
