Watch out, trap: these 5 new scams are really something:
The overzealous helpers
Anyone who goes on vacation by car is a welcome target for criminals. Example: A couple took a break. When they drove off again, the tire suddenly went flat. Helpers appeared out of nowhere. While everyone was inspecting the damage, one of them climbed into the car to steal the valuables. The seemingly rescuing angels were actually the ones who had previously punctured the tire.
TIP: If possible, someone should stay in the car at rest stops. Lock the doors even if you are only away for a minute
The supposed neighbor
You've barely arrived at your vacation home when the doorbell rings. Your supposed neighbor is completely upset: he has locked himself out, the locksmith has arrived and wants to be paid immediately. "Only" 50 euros are missing.
TIP: Offer to come with him so that you can give the locksmith the money yourself. Otherwise, the neighbor and the money will most likely be gone.
Recipient? I don't know
Resourceful tricksters order goods online under a false name and have them delivered to unoccupied addresses - or to households that are empty due to vacations. The courier drops the parcel off at a neighbor's house. And shortly afterwards, a charming person appears on the doorstep who has promised to collect the package from the holidaymaker. A tricky situation.
TIP: Only accept parcels for neighbors you really know. Or ask to see the collection card or ID.
The debit card is stuck
This is another bad scam: the card slot on the ATM is prepared with glue. You want to withdraw money and then the card won't come out. A helper is immediately on hand. He knows that you have to enter the PIN again - and he is happy to watch you do it. Another trick: while you are paying with your credit card, it is swapped.
TIP: Be very careful. If the card is gone, have it blocked immediately. Emergency call: 116116
Fake jewelry
The latest trick: You have bought expensive jewelry in your vacation destination. Then a supposed customs officer calls and demands a fine. He threatens to inform the public prosecutor's office otherwise.
TIP: Anyone who receives such a call should report it to the police immediately.
