Taking off cheaply with low-cost airlines? Where you can still get a bargain

To Barcelona for a mere 20 euros? Theoretically, this is possible thanks to budget airlines. But you can only get a bargain if you don't check in any suitcases and provide your own food. 1 Wow Air

Icelandic airline that flies from Germany to the USA via Iceland. Only one piece of hand luggage measuring 42x32x25 cm is free of charge, other luggage and seat reservations cost extra. www.wow-air.de

2. wizzair

A provider from Hungary that flies from eleven German airports to destinations in Europe, Morocco and the Middle East, among others. Hand luggage may be 55 x 40 x 23 cm in size and weigh a maximum of 10 kilos. www.wizzair.com/de-de

3 Aer Lingus

The Irish airline belongs to the International Airlines Group and flies from Germany to Ireland and the USA. Hand baggage must not exceed 55 x 40 x 24 cm. www. aerlingus.com

4 Easy Jet

Currently the second largest airline in Europe after Ryanair. Hand luggage may measure 56x45x25 cm. Luggage weighing more than 32 kilos will not be carried at all. www.easyjet.com

5 Norwegian Air

The Norwegian low-cost carrier flies from Germany to 100 destinations worldwide. An extra fee is charged for connecting flights. Hand luggage: 55 x 40 x 23 cm. www.norwegian.com

6 Sun Express

The Turkish airline has 21 departure airports in Germany and mainly flies to vacation destinations in Turkey and Greece. Hand luggage: 55 x 40 x 20 cm. www. sunexpress.com

7. tui fly

This subsidiary of the Tui tourism group flies to over 300 destinations in 99 countries, mainly in the Mediterranean region. Hand baggage must not weigh more than 6 kilos and not exceed 55 x 40 x 20 cm. www. tuifly.com

The Spanish airline is also a subsidiary of the International Airlines Group (which also includes Iberia and British Airways) and serves 17 European hubs. Hand luggage: 55 x 40 x 20 cm. www.vueling.com/de

9. ryanair

The low-cost carrier from Ireland is Europe's largest airline with around 120 million passengers last year. Hand luggage may weigh a maximum of 10 kilos. Dimensions: 55 x 40 x 20 cm. www.ryanair.com

10 Eurowings

The German airline is a subsidiary of Lufthansa. Carry-on baggage is allowed to weigh 8 kilos and measures 55 x 40 x 23 cm. www.eurowings.com.
