The best tips for hot weather in the office

Germany is sweating! We're certainly not complaining about this dream summer. But if you're sitting in the office every day in temperatures of over 30 degrees, your head will soon start to smoke and your productivity will slowly decline. With these tips, you can combat the heat in the office and keep a cool head at work even on hot days.

Keep a cool head now: We'll tell you how to stay cool in the office even when it's hot.

The air is stagnant, your back is wet and your fingers are sticking to the keyboard - what we enjoy so much on the beach, at the lake or on the balcony can be a real pain in the office. But there are a few things we can do to protect ourselves and our colleagues from heat exhaustion:

1. cool air

Not every office has the luxury of air conditioning. But look on the bright side: at least you won't get cold feet and it will save your boss expensive electricity costs, because air conditioning units are real energy guzzlers and can cost several hundred euros a year to run. Fans (e.g. from AEG) are cheaper. They also provide a cool breeze at the workplace and the electricity costs are less than 10 euros per year.
Tip: Aim the fan at your upper body rather than your face. Otherwise you could get headaches and tension.

2. switch off unused devices

Screens and PCs get hot enough as it is, so naturally the temperature in the office rises quickly too. It is therefore better to switch off all devices that you are not currently using.
Tip: In standby mode, many devices are still running on the side and emit additional heat. So it's better to switch them off completely. This will also make the boss happy when it comes to billing the electricity provider (e.g. E.ON).

3. refreshing footbath

Swollen feet, aching legs - the heat really gets to some of us. A little cooling from below can help. Simply fill the garbage can with cold water and turn it into a refreshing foot spa. Then apply a cooling foot balm (e.g. Gehwol Fusskraft). A hot water bottle with cold water can also be refreshing.

4. shady spot

Of course, we spend as much time as possible in the sun. However, the blazing midday sun can quickly make you very tired. It's better to find a shady spot. Or how about a little detour to the server room? This is usually well air-conditioned to protect the equipment from the heat.

4. cold coffee for new energy

36 degrees and it's getting even hotter ... When the afternoon slump threatens, there's only one thing to do: coffee! But the hot brew doesn't necessarily cool you down. However, there is a remedy for all caffeine junkies: it's best to brew the coffee in the morning and keep it cold in the fridge. Then enjoy the cool kick with a few ice cubes in the afternoon.
