After washing is before ironing properly
- Once the wash cycle is finished, take the garments out of the machine immediately, hang them up quickly, lay them out or smooth them out - this is the first step in getting rid of creases, as this immediately reduces the number of creased areas.
- Plastic hangers encourage pressure marks and creases, so it is better to use round rubber hangers for drying.
- Do not leave the laundry to dry for too long, otherwise it will be more difficult to iron it properly. If it is too dry, moisten it slightly with water from a spray bottle.
- Pre-sort the laundry so that all items that require the same degree of heat are together.
Iron correctly: Pay attention to details
The ironing board should be stable and height-adjustable. There are special boards with extra-wide shelves for steam stations. Always set up the station so that it cannot tip over and no one can trip over cables. Fill the steam iron tank with tap water or mix it with distilled water in a 1:1 ratio if you live in a region with hard water. You should only use distilled water if the manufacturer recommends it, as it can permanently damage the soleplate. Also avoid scented water. You don't need them to get rid of creases, and they can damage the inside of the appliance and leave stains on the laundry.
Get rid of creases in no time: increase the temperature
When ironing, start with textiles that can only tolerate a little heat and gradually increase the temperature. For mixed textiles, the heat level depends on the most sensitive fiber. Always iron the small parts first, such as collars. Trick for complicated cuts such as puffed sleeves: Hold the iron at the opening so that the steam released draws into the fabric tube. For anyone who regularly has to iron a lot of shirts and blouses, it is worth buying an extra sleeve board. This allows shirts and the like to be ironed correctly.
Avoid mistakes
If you iron dark fibers, they quickly become shiny. To avoid this, place a damp cloth between the fabric and the iron. If you iron creases into the fabric despite being careful, simply dampen the area slightly and iron until the crease is gone again.
