Hand lettering tutorial: decorate porcelain with beautiful lettering

Hannah Rabenstein loves letters! And so the hand lettering expert writes on pretty much anything that isn't nailed down. In a new episode of "The Handlettering School", a project with edding and DaWanda, the Nuremberg native shows how to turn a plain white porcelain plate into a real eye-catcher for any table.

After Hannah has already introduced us to the basics of hand lettering and taught us about beautiful lettering on paper, glass and fabric, she now shows us step by step how to transform a large plate into a beautiful unique piece in the "Little Hand Lettering School" by edding and DaWanda.

Labeling porcelain: first steps

First, she wipes the plate clean with a microfiber cloth. A first draft on paper helps to find the right proportions for the lettering.

Then the desired motif is painted onto the plate with special porcelain brush pens from edding. Of course, this requires a little practice and a steady hand. But, as we all know, the sky is the limit.

Little tips and tricks from the hand lettering expert

Writing on the edge of the plate can be wobbly. Hannah recommends using a flat object, e.g. a book, of the same height to support your hand.

Finally, leave the lettering to dry for about 15 minutes before putting the plate in the oven to bake.
