Learn to crochet: Single crochet stitches

In crochet, single crochet stitches are what you learn relatively early on. Whether potholders, coasters or small doilies - single crochet stitches form the basis for many other crocheted items. Today we will show you how to learn how to create a tight stitch pattern.

Today we crochet single crochet stitches - this is how it works

After the chain stitches that we taught you in part 1 of our little crochet school, in part 2 we will tackle the single crochet stitches. You can use them to create coasters, pot holders etc. very easily. Even if you are not yet very experienced in crocheting, single crochet stitches are easy to learn.

Crocheting single crochet stitches: how it works

First you need a chain of chain stitches. Then insert the crochet hook into the penultimate stitch of the previous row from the front. Bring the thread to the front. There are now two loops on the hook. Pull the yarn through both loops to create a new loop. You have now crocheted your first single crochet stitch. Now crochet as many single crochet stitches as you need for your potholder
