Learn to crochet: Thread ring

If you want to start a crochet piece or crochet in rounds, you need the so-called "thread ring", also known as the "magic ring" or "flexible ring". We will show you this special crochet technique in part 4 of our "Little Crochet School".

Today we are crocheting a thread ring

To crochet a thread ring, you must already be able to crochet chain stitches and single crochet stitches. We showed you these two techniques in parts one and two of the "Little Crochet School".

The yarn ring consists of a single and a double loop. The first row of stitches is crocheted around these. Close the round by pulling the yarn ring together to the desired size.

Thread ring step by step

First wrap the yarn around your index finger and thumb. Now pull the thread through the loop and hold the loop firmly. Now pull the thread back through the loop and secure the loop on the needle. Pick up the thread with the needle and pull it through the two resulting loops. Repeat this process as often as required to create a ring. Now insert into the first stitch and secure the ring with a slip stitch. Now make the single crochet stitches.
