The basics of the sewing machine

Already have a sewing machine and want to get started? Let's get started!

Setting the thread tension

First of all, you need to set the thread tension. The value to be set depends on the quality of the selected fabric.

Setting the stitch type

Then set the stitch type:

  • Sew together and topstitch: lockstitch
  • serging: zigzag stitch

Setting the stitch length

You can also set the stitch length:

  • basting and gathering: large stitch length
  • topstitching and sewing together: medium stitch length

Handwheel

The needle can be moved manually using the handwheel.

Sewing foot

The presser foot can be moved downwards with a small lever. You can then start sewing. If you move it upwards, you can insert or remove the fabric.

You now know the basics of the sewing machine. Now you can get started with simple sewing.
