Learn to sew easily - Part 2

Do you have a sewing machine and are now sitting in front of it completely at a loss? If you want to learn to sew, you will need a little patience, but once you have understood the basics, sewing is actually quite simple. And as the saying goes: no master has fallen from the sky.

Whether it's a cushion cover, bag or item of clothing - before you can start sewing, you need to take a few initial steps to prepare. Regardless of what you want to sew and how thick the fabric, needle or thread is, the process is the same for every sewing project. In our video instructions, we show you step by step what to do.

Once you have selected a thread that matches your desired fabric, thread the upper and bobbin thread as follows:

1 Prepare the bobbin

First, prepare the bobbin. Attach the thread and then the bobbin. Thread the thread and wind it around the bobbin a few times. Then press the foot pedal to wind the thread.

2 Threading the upper thread

Now guide the upper thread around the first thread guide and through the thread channel. The arrows marking the threading path are usually numbered. Once at the presser foot, the thread is now threaded under the hook and into the eye.

3 Inserting the bobbin thread

Remove the small bobbin. Now open the cover underneath the presser foot and insert the bobbin. Use the lever on the side to lower the presser foot and then turn the handwheel on the side clockwise until the needle has lowered once and then raised again. Now use a pair of scissors or a long object to guide the upper thread underneath the presser foot. This automatically pulls up the bobbin thread.
