Today in the "little sewing school": lining up

A long length of fabric that is laid in many small folds and then sewn together - in technical jargon, this is called "lining up" or "gathering". So after sewing and serging, the next step is "lining up". And it's not as difficult as you might think. We'll show you how to do it.

Lining up: this is how it works

You will need two pattern pieces for lining up.

First, sew a topstitch seam at 0.75 cm. In the second step, pull the bobbin thread evenly so that the fabric ruffles slightly and folds. Now gather the fabric to the desired length and distribute the gathering evenly.

Now lay the two pattern pieces on top of each other, right sides facing and topstitch the two pieces together at 1 cm. You can now drape the lined outer fabric the way you want it.
