Make a dreamcatcher: With step-by-step instructions

The dreamcatcher is a cult object from the Native American Ojibwe culture. It is hung in the sleeping area and is said to protect the sleeper from evil spirits and bad dreams. The pretty object is a popular decorative item in this country and can therefore be seen in many apartments and houses. We show you how to make a dreamcatcher yourself.

You don't need much to make a dreamcatcher. You may already have the right things at home, such as wooden beads, wool or shells - or you can look for them on a walk. Of course, there are also ready-made craft kits that you can use to get started right away. The accessories: - A wooden or metal ring in a size that suits you - You can also make your own ring from a flexible willow branch - Wool or leather cord to wrap around the ring (optional) - thin wool or sturdy yarn for the net, the pendants and the suspension - to decorate: Wooden beads, glass beads, beads made from gemstones, small tree cones, shells (with a hole) - Feathers, either artificial (also available in bright colors) or self-collected (then put the feathers in a bag and "sterilize" overnight in the freezer)

Step 1 - Wrap the ring: We wrapped our metal ring with a wider leather band (attach with all-purpose glue). This step is not absolutely necessary. A willow branch bent into a circle, for example, looks most beautiful on its own.

Step 2 - knot tightly: Depending on the size of the ring, you will need about 2 - 3 meters of wool or yarn. Tie one end to the ring at about 12 o'clock. If you like and the thread is not too thick, you can thread the end you are using into a thick needle.

Step 3 - start threading: We thread in a clockwise direction. Place the thread around the ring from the inside to the outside and thread the thread back into the center to create a loop. Divide the ring in such a way that you thread around the ring eight times in this way and reach 12 o'clock again on the eighth time. For a tighter net, you can of course also divide the ring into more pieces.

Step 4 - all the way around: This is what it looks like when you have threaded eight times around the ring. Then carefully pull tight loop by loop!

Step 5 - start a new round: To get the first round of threading "tight", loop the thread once around the ring at 12 o'clock. Start the second round in the middle of the first loop: Here again, place the thread from front to back around the existing thread and thread it back into the middle to form a loop. If it slips a little, simply push it back the way you want it. In the course of the second round, the typical net pattern becomes recognizable.

Step 6 ... and further rounds: Thesecond and all further rounds are threaded in the same way: You create new loops in the already existing net, in each case in the middle of the already existing threads.

Step 7 - the last row: If it gets too tight for another round, knot the thread tightly. Traditionally, the dream catcher has a hole in the middle so that the dreams can slip through.

Step 8 - Pendant: String beads, cones or shells (with a hole) to make pendants. Attach the feather by first pulling a ribbon through a bead and knotting it tightly and then inserting the keel into the bead. You may need to shorten the keel so that the feather fits properly. Source: Happy Way
