Crafting in winter: Turn every evening into something special

The days are getting shorter and shorter. It's already dark outside by 5 pm. The lack of sunlight makes us tired and sluggish. Quite a few of us get the winter blues. But instead of just lounging on the couch in front of the TV in the evening, there are many ways to get active at home.

Why not read Christmas stories together with the whole family? Or how about doing handicrafts in winter? This increases the anticipation of Christmas Eve, especially for children. It's best to make a ritual out of it. Such a fixed program is good for us, especially in hectic times. It conveys a feeling of protection and security.

Anyone who has had a stressful day wants to take a deep breath and calm down. Dream journeys help with this. All you have to do is make yourself comfortable in an armchair and close your eyes. For example, listen to a CD with the sound of the sea (available in stores for around 8 euros). Imagine yourself strolling along a dream beach. The water is azure blue, the wind gently caresses your skin... Is your breathing already calming down?

Perhaps you would also like to stimulate your sense of taste and smell. This works particularly well with new recipes that conjure up a sensory experience. And that has been proven to boost your mood!

Another feel-good ritual: set up a fragrance lamp with your favorite aroma and do some fragrance meditation. Sit on a chair with your back straight so that your chest is not constricted. Now close your eyes for ten minutes, consciously pay attention to your breathing and enjoy the fragrance. Frankincense not only conjures up the Christmas spirit, but also has a calming, relaxing effect.

Not in the mood for meditation? Then do handicrafts in winter!

If you don't feel like meditating, you can pass the time with handicrafts in winter. This also benefits your job. This is what US researchers found out: Those who love creative hobbies are usually more productive at work. Make a beautiful winter decoration. Or make a festive table decoration for the winter. Either way: crafting calms you down.
