Deter burglars: It works with these tricks

Crime statistics show that the number of burglaries is falling. So far, so good. Nevertheless, burglars often have an easy time of it when people go on vacation. If you don't want to install an expensive alarm system straight away, you can also use simple tricks to make your house or apartment more secure. Here are a few ideas that are quick to implement and absolutely effective. Now you can go on vacation.

Sturdy doors: If you have any influence on this, choose a door with multi-point locking. Retrofit old doors with rod hangers!

Overflowing letterboxes are a clear sign to burglars that no one is at home. Ask your neighbors or friends to empty the box regularly.

Secure gratings with special fuses, e.g. from BaSi, approx. 27.90 euros.

Keyhole locks make old doors in particular more secure, e.g. from Burg Wächter, approx. 12 euros.

And suddenly the light is on

Motion detectors are not expensive at all - but they are extremely effective. After all, no burglar wants you to be able to watch them at work. Timers are similarly effective. They ensure that various lights in your home are switched on and off.

Support from friends

If your neighbors keep an eye on your apartment or house and occasionally open and close the curtains, everything will look lived in. If they are away, you can return the favor.

Weatherproof garden furniture

Do you have garden furniture made of a weatherproof material? If so, make sure you leave it in the garden. Maybe put something on the table, a cup or a vase. This makes it look as if you have only been away for a short time or are just in the house. Burglars shy away from the risk.

Find really good hiding places

If you have valuables, take photos of them and write down information about them - then you have proof for the insurance company. Be inventive when hiding things. Is a tile loose somewhere? Or a curtain rail hollow? Spreading valuables around minimizes the risk.

A quick bit of garden maintenance

Should the hedge be trimmed again? Make sure you do it before you go on vacation. Then you'll have a clearer view of the house.

Everything cleverly thought out

It makes an impression: a fake camera above the front door, a sign on the fence saying "Caution, snappy dog!" or a notice on the house saying "This property is alarm-protected". It doesn't necessarily have to be true. The main thing is to deter burglars.

There are also electronic door locks. You can lock them on the move using your smartphone.

Gratings

Are the light wells and cellar shafts fitted with a grating that can be lifted off? This makes it easy to get in through the cellar window! Special safety devices prevent this immediately.

Cellar doors

Do you usually still have the old, large keyholes that are easy to crack? Keyhole locks are available for around ten euros. Plug them in, lock them and feel safe.
