Have your garden chairs rusted over the summer? Restoring old garden furniture is not difficult! Here's how to refurnish them - so that the remaining warm days are really nice.
This is what you need to restore garden furniture:
- Wire brush, paintbrush
- Multifunctional tool
- Metal primer
- Metal top coat
Cost: around 40 euros (without multifunctional tool).
Cleaning furniture
First remove flaking layers of paint, rust, moss and mold stains from the metal furniture. A coarse wire brush, for example, is suitable for this.
Smooth surfaces
The best way to do this is with a multifunctional tool, for example from Dremel. Choose fine sanding discs for smooth surfaces and aluminum oxide sanding discs for rust.
Apply metal primer
Once you have completely removed all deposits from the chair, brush on the metal primer. This will prevent new rust from forming.
Painting the furniture
As soon as the primer has dried, apply the final coat in the color of your choice. Use a paint that is suitable for metal.
