Earwigs are useful insects that pose no danger - but you still don't want them in your home!

With their long pincers, earwigs, also known as earwigs, can be quite threatening. Under no circumstances do you want to come into contact with them. And one thing is certain: you definitely don't want these insects in your home!

What you can do against earwigs in the home

First of all, the good news: earwigs are only in your home by accident, as this is not actually their territory. The flying insects have come in by chance or have been attracted by an irresistible smell. They normally like to live where it is damp - gardens are their territory. This is why earwigs are more common in sheds, garden sheds or on patios than indoors. However, if you discover more of them in your home, you can do this:

Earwig traps

The animals are caught alive in these traps and can simply be released into the fresh air to make themselves useful in the garden - because that is their purpose. Simply slide individual animals onto a sheet of paper and take them outside.

Set up a clay pot

Fill a clay pot with some straw or an old newspaper, put some soil on top and turn the pot upside down - the earwigs will accept the clay pot as a home so that you can release them collectively in the garden or elsewhere the next day.

Light

Earwigs are nocturnal - if you have a heavy infestation, it can help to illuminate and heat a room. They do not like light or heat.

Shake out laundry thoroughly

The insects can also sometimes be found in laundry or bed linen, this is simply because the flying insects have made themselves comfortable on it while drying. If you dry your laundry outside, always shake it out thoroughly before taking it off so that no earwigs end up in your bed or wardrobe.

Ventilate and heat damp rooms

Have you found earwigs in your bed? Of course, it is particularly damp there - if your bedroom is very damp overall, then you need to air and heat it regularly. However, moisture not only attracts earwigs, but is also a breeding ground for mold. You should therefore take urgent action.

Important: Earwigs (Dermaptera) are useful animals that pose no danger. So please do not kill them!
