Houseplants have different needs

Not all soil is the same

Potting soil, granules or orchid soil? It all depends on the individual needs of your houseplant, because no matter how good the care is - if the wrong soil is chosen, the needs of the plant cannot be met and it will sooner or later die. Take note of the advantages and disadvantages of the three different types of soil so that you can tailor the care of your houseplant accordingly.

#1 Potting soil

Advantages:

- Contains a basic supply of nutrients
- Suitable for many plants
- Inexpensive
- easy to use

disadvantages:

- Regular watering
- frequent repotting
- susceptible to contamination

#2 Plant granules

Advantages:

- does not need to be changed
- stores water for a long time
- roots have enough space to grow

disadvantages:

- high purchase price
- Buying a water indicator is an advantage
- Waterproof flower pots are required
- Not suitable for all plants

#3 Orchid soil

Advantages

- Very good water retention
- high air permeability
- ideally suited for air-rooted plants such as orchids

Disadvantages:

- high purchase price
- Large differences in quality
- roots rot if overwatered

Houseplant care: the location is also crucial

The choice of location is just as important as the soil. Does the houseplant need a lot or little sunlight? Can it tolerate direct sunlight or does it prefer shade? The need for light, warmth and water depends entirely on the plant. To ensure that it thrives, these factors must be taken into account when choosing a location.
