Get rid of odors
Does the chopping board still smell unpleasant even after rinsing? No wonder, if you often chop onions or garlic on it. Just half a lemon is enough to remove the smell: simply rub it on the board and then rinse it clean.
Dissolve limescale with citric acid
Limescale quickly builds up on taps and shower heads, especially in the bathroom. To clean them, dissolve 1 tablespoon of citric acid powder in a quarter of a liter of water. Apply the mixture to the affected areas, leave to work in well and rinse thoroughly. Kettles and coffee machines can be descaled with a mixture of 2 tablespoons of acid powder and 1 liter of water.
Remove burnt-on food from pans and pots
It is easy for food to burn and stubbornly stick to the bottom of pots and pans. Simply mix 1 tablespoon of citric acid powder and 1 cup of water. Bring to the boil in the affected pot or pan and leave to soak for half an hour. Rinse with clean water.
Brighten up white laundry
Gray haze and yellowish stains on white laundry will disappear if you rub the affected area with lemon juice or soak the entire garment in a solution of 15 grams of acid powder and 1 liter of water. Then machine wash as normal.
Removing coffee stains
Sprinkle a piece of lemon with salt and rub it thoroughly into cups and mugs that have unsightly tea and coffee stains. Leave to work for a while and then rinse everything thoroughly.
Caution: Do not use lemon to clean metal
However, citric acid should not be used on surfaces and appliances made of aluminum or other base metals: These are sensitive to acid.
