Summer, sunshine, wonderful! Now we love being outside, eating ice cream or going for a swim. And when we get home, we want it to be nice and cool. But what can we do when it's hot to keep it outside? We can't shut it out completely. And especially if you have an attic apartment, you won 't be able to avoid sweating. But fortunately, there are a few tips and tricks we can use to prevent our homes from heating up too much. Here's how to get through the hot days.

Reduce the heat

External roller shutters are the best way to do this. If you don't have the opportunity to install them, you should use opaque curtains or blinds. Alternatively, you can attach self-adhesive sun protection film to the windows.

Ventilate properly

Only ventilate at night and in the morning, preferably cross-ventilate. Always keep windows and balcony or patio doors closed during the day, otherwise the home will heat up very quickly. Lighten the walls Homeowners should choose a light color for the exterior walls the next time they paint them: Dark ones store twice as much heat. Green plants on exterior walls also keep the heat out: Water constantly evaporates on them, which has a cooling effect.

Hang up sheets

Hang damp cloths or sheets around the room: As the fabrics dry, heat is drawn out of the air through evaporation and the temperature drops noticeably. However, this also increases the humidity in the room.

Buying an air conditioner

Installing a fixed unit is very expensive. Mobile units that transport warm air out through the window via a hose are available from DIY stores from 90 euros. Caution: These devices consume a lot of electricity.

Cool down in the office

Table fans reduce the perceived temperature in the room by rotating. Ice cubes filled with fruit are wonderfully refreshing. When it gets really hot: fill a bowl with ice water, take off your shoes and put your feet in. Ask the boss beforehand.
