Tips & tricks: Packing your suitcase correctly

Things often get stressful just before you start your trip: We want to have everything we need with us, but at the same time only carry a small amount of luggage. This means packing your suitcase properly. With these tips and tricks, you can save space in your luggage and save yourself stress.

Packing your suitcase properly doesn't just mean having a clever system for folding clothes. If you first clarify the conditions at your destination, you will also know exactly what you need to take with you and which items are superfluous. Is the weather stable or changeable, are beach towels and hairdryers available free of charge at the hotel? Once the packing list for your vacation has been drawn up, you're ready to go.

Layer by layer

Spread heavy items such as shoes and toiletry bags on the bottom of the suitcase so that the rest of the contents are not flattened or crumpled. Small items can be stowed in shoes so that they don't fly around loosely.

Clean thing

Store shampoo, shower gel, sun cream and anything else that could leak out individually in plastic bags. This keeps everything clean and dry. This also applies to medication. Pull a shower cap over the soles of your shoes so that no dirt is spread between your clothes.

Folded correctly

If you are taking towels, fold them in half and place them over the heavy items on the bottom of the suitcase. Then come the pants, folded to the length of the suitcase, then jackets and pullovers: fold in the sleeves and fold in half. Roll up the rest of the clothes, such as T-shirts, and pack them as the top layer. Fill the gaps with underwear.

Laundry protection

Against creases: Wrap fine tops and scarves flat around an empty kitchen roll and stuff it with socks to prevent it from creasing. To prevent bad smells in your suitcase, simply place one or two dryer sheets between your clothes so that they still smell freshly washed even after a long journey.
