The same picture every evening at just after nine: guests at the hotel resorts in Cádiz pull out their cameras and point their lenses towards the west. The sun is about to set. A spectacular sight and definitely a highlight of Andalusia round trips - and the tourists only have a few minutes to capture this perfect moment when the red ball of fire in the sky sinks into the sea. Never made it in time yourself? Never mind. The sight will stay in your heart. Or simply try it again this year ...
Andalusia sights between folklore and flamenco
Andalusia is so diverse that it takes more than one vacation to discover its eight provinces. There are over 800 kilometers of coastline from the Costa de la Luz on the Atlantic to the Costa de Almería on the Mediterranean. In between, palm-fringed dream beaches, charming villages and historic cities beckon. Málaga, for example, is the birthplace of the painter Pablo Picasso (1881-1973). Around 200 of his works can be admired here in the Picasso Museum (admission 5 to 8 euros, children up to 16 years free). Want more action? From August 13 to 20, the whole city celebrates the "Feria de Agosto", the biggest summer festival on the Costa del Sol - with magnificent fireworks, concerts, flamenco and, yes, bullfights. The controversial arena spectacle is as much a part of Andalusia's attractions as the sherry and delicious tapas that can be found on almost every corner.
An unspoiled paradise
Seville is considered the birthplace of these fantastic delicacies. Be sure to try the rosada fish in lemon sauce or eggplants stuffed with prawns. A delight in the tapas bar "Blanca Paloma" in the Triana district (Calle Pagés del Corro, 86). Full and satisfied, but it's too hot for a walk? Then Granada offers "cool" alternatives: exciting caves, such as the Cueva del Agua in Iznalloz with its large halls and stalactites, are an absolute must on all Andalusia round trips. Equally impressive: the Cabo de Gata Nature Park near Almería. One of the last, largely unspoiled paradises in the Spanish Mediterranean. Nature lovers will get their money's worth hiking here. Beginners should start at the "Las Amoladeras" information center on the road from the airport to Cabo de Gata. A marked circular trail begins there, and you can walk the seven kilometers comfortably in an hour and a half. If you're lucky, you might see flamingos there! So pack your camera. And as with the sunset, the same applies here: If you're not lucky the first time, just come back!
