Is intimate surgery no longer a taboo subject?
In my experience, patients are not at all open about the subject. So it is still a taboo subject.

What is most often requested?
Labia minora reduction surgery.

What exactly does the surgeon do during this procedure?
The labia minora are cut off directly so that the subsequent scar lies on top of the labia minora. This is usually not sufficient for reasons of 'harmony', as the clitoral hood is often also greatly enlarged. In this case, it should also be reduced in size to match, as otherwise the area will look operated on and inharmonious.

Are there medical reasons for such an operation?
You won't believe it, but most of my patients cite functional problems during sexual intercourse, chafing when sitting or hygiene problems. This is then a medical reason for the operation.

Does the partner's desire also play a role?
I very often have couples in my consultation where the partners consider the desired procedure to be completely unnecessary, but the findings are extremely stressful for the women or men concerned. If a finding only bothers the partner, then no procedure should be carried out. Then I send the patient away again.

What are the risks, what can go wrong?
Minor wound healing disorders are the most common. Complications such as serious infections, tissue death, severe scarring or loss of sensation in this area are extremely rare.

The most common procedures:

- Labiaplasty: Reduction of the labia minora is one of the most common operations in the genital area. They are cut off but retain their shape. Cost: 800 to 1,000 euros.
- Injection: The labia minora are injected with hyaluronic acid or autologous fat, the labia minora are no longer visible. Lasts around eight months and costs 300 to 1,000 euros.
- Vaginal canal: Narrowing of the vaginal canal, for example after childbirth, is done with a laser. Takes up to ten sessions, one costs around 300 euros.
- Mounds of Venus: Fatty mounds of Venus are suctioned out, while sunken mounds are plumped up with hyaluronic acid. Liposuction costs around 1,500 euros.
