Planning a wedding takes months, sometimes even years, and the anticipation is huge - and then suddenly the coronavirus crisis hits at the start of the wedding season. The protective measures taken because of the crisis, such as the ban on contact, put a spanner in the works for upcoming weddings. Many couples now don't know what to do, whether they should cancel or postpone their wedding. This particularly affects weddings in April and possibly also in May. We'll have to wait and see what happens from June onwards, but it's impossible to say at the moment as the situation is constantly changing.
What bridal couples should know now
Church wedding ceremonies are currently not possible at all due to the contact ban and have to be postponed. If you are planning a civil ceremony and have already made an appointment, you should check with your city for individual details. Some cities have canceled civil weddings altogether. In other cities, however, it is still possible to get married as a couple in the presence of a registrar, so it's better to find out beforehand.
Postpone or get married now?
A wedding celebration with our relatives and friends is currently not possible due to the contact ban. So if you had planned a nice big celebration with friends, relatives and co. and don't want to miss out on celebrating with your loved ones, you should consider postponing the wedding.
Despite the difficult circumstances, many couples decide to go ahead with the civil ceremony anyway and postpone celebrating with their loved ones until better times in a few months' time. Ultimately, however, each couple must decide for themselves whether or not to postpone the wedding due to the uncertainty of the current situation.
Establish communication with service providers
If you want to postpone your wedding, you should talk to your service providers, such as the venue, photographer or caterer, and try to find a solution, such as rescheduling in a few months' time. The service providers are also affected by the pandemic and are certainly just as interested in a good agreement as the bride and groom-to-be. It is best to contact the venue first, as this will make further rescheduling easier. Also ask your witnesses and friends for help, they will certainly be happy to help you with the rescheduling in these difficult times. Together we can do it.
