What sex messages say about us - according to a study

Sexting on smartphones is now a matter of course for many people. And why not? Especially in times of corona, a hot flirt in between can't hurt. But what do sex messages actually say about us?

Sex messages can be hot - but they also reveal a lot about us.

What does sexting say about our personality?

According to recent research, there are three different ways to enter into or maintain a relationship: confident, insecure or anxious-ambivalent. So what does this say about our personality and sexting?

According to the study, people who send explicit sexual messages to initiate sex via text message are insecure or anxious-ambivalent in relationships. Another study shows that so-called "sexters" send sexual messages to satisfy an obsessive need for closeness and protection. Insecure types, on the other hand, find that sexting meets their real sexual needs - but they keep their partner at a distance.

Sexting in relationships

Even in committed relationships, some people have the urge to sext. According to a survey by the sex toy provider LELO, this is only 12%, but this could have something to do with the fear of being caught. Couples may also be less familiar with sexting practices than singles or young adults. The study found that women who send nude or semi-nude pictures of themselves are usually insecure - for men, this is linked to anxious attachment.

What is sexting?

Sexting involves sending sexual messages via smartphone, i.e. showing oneself largely undressed, often in a sexy pose. According to a survey, around 75 percent of mainly young adults use sexting to satisfy their fantasies.
