Sex during pregnancy: why not?

Some women and men have more of a mental problem with sex during pregnancy than a physical one. Is it allowed, is it not indecent? And then, of course, is it harmful to the child? We can confidently resolve these questions: No, the child in the womb is not watching and it doesn't mind if its parents are having fun. You should also let go of false moral concepts. Enjoy your sexuality - it is said that many women even experience a very pronounced desire during pregnancy because their sexual organs are supplied with more blood, the vagina is wetter than usual due to more vaginal secretions and the nipples are more sensitive. If the woman feels like it, the man can also join in. As long as there is no physical discomfort, there is no reason not to have sex!

However, everything can change over the course of pregnancy - if a woman felt enormous arousal a few weeks ago with just a light touch of her breasts, this can later be experienced as painful. Pleasure is also always dependent on the overall state of the body. While the baby is growing in the womb, no condition is set in stone. If, as a woman, you don't feel any pleasure for several weeks or months or the whole time, then as a couple you also have to get through this time. Even if this is sometimes difficult for the man, as many find their wife highly erotic with growing breasts and a growing belly.

When you should abstain from sex during pregnancy

Sex is out of the question if there are physical problems or if there is a risk of bleeding or infection through penetration with the penis. Penetration should be avoided if the placenta is in an unfavorable position.

  • Caution is advised if you have had a miscarriage in the first few weeks of pregnancy
  • In the last weeks of pregnancy
  • If a premature birth is imminent
  • In the case of multiple pregnancies

It is important to talk to your doctor about all of the above points. Tip: You and your partner should talk openly with your doctor about sex during pregnancy. He or she is a competent advisor who you don't need to be ashamed of.
