Tips for saving money when buying clothes: always well dressed for little money

Many women want to feel fashionable and well-dressed. However, they don't always have the money to go shopping regularly. Sometimes you just want to keep your money to yourself because you are saving up for a larger purchase, for example. Fortunately, there are various ways to spend significantly less when shopping - and still dress the way you like.

Better to sleep on it for a night

Are you one of those people who tend to make impulse purchases when you're in a bad mood? Then you would do well to say goodbye to this behavior. In fact, every fifth item of clothing bought in Germany is only worn less than twice. After that, it hangs uselessly in the wardrobe. What's more, people often buy far more than they can actually wear. On average, Germans buy 60 items of clothing a year. Even if these are worn from time to time, several hundred euros hang unused in the closet over the year. At some point, these "wardrobe corpses" are simply thrown away or put in the clothes garbage can. So always take enough time to think about whether you will really wear an item of clothing before you buy it. A good trick is to leave the clothes in the store for a while and go home. If after a few days you still think about the clothes you saw in the store, then go back and buy them.

Browse in outlet stores

An outlet is a store where you can get goods from previous collections, returns from retailers or goods from overproduction at lower prices. The advantage is that you have the opportunity to store a large selection of clothing, sometimes from high-quality brand labels, for comparatively little money. Because the outlet buyers negotiate such good prices with the labels, you can pass on the savings directly to your customers.

Invest in high-quality clothing

Many people wear the clothes they buy for less than three years. This is because clothes that they have bought cheaply are of poor quality and break quickly. Other items are trendy items that are simply no longer fashionable after one season. It is therefore actually more financially worthwhile to invest in high-quality and slightly more expensive items of clothing. There are various ways of recognizing the quality of clothing. High-quality clothing is as easy on the wallet as it is on the environment thanks to its long service life. Ideally, it is timeless fashion that will not be "out" even after years. Understated basic pieces that can be combined with almost anything are ideal. This approach also saves time: instead of having to reinvent yourself fashion-wise every season, stick to the items you already own. This means you only go shopping when you really feel like it.

Less is more: capsule wardrobe

A capsule wardrobe is a closet that consists of a very limited number of items. People who live a minimalist lifestyle are particularly drawn to this trend. Some even set a rule in advance that they can only own a certain number of items of clothing - 100, 50 or even just 30. The aim is to only own things that you like and enjoy without exception. The main focus is on basic items in subtle colors so that everything can be combined with each other. The fact that you are always well-dressed and feel completely comfortable in your clothes means that you have less of a need to constantly buy something new.

Second hand fashion

In the past, second-hand clothes were mainly bought by people who couldn't afford new clothes. That has changed. Nowadays, there are also many people who prefer second-hand clothes for sustainability reasons. In fact, clothes swaps, flea markets and online second-hand stores have made it easier than ever to find what you are looking for second-hand. It is no longer necessary to spend hours searching through rummage tables - you can get everything online in no time at all. And second-hand items often only cost a fraction of what you would pay for them new in a store. Apart from that, it also makes sense to sell on well-preserved items of clothing that you no longer wear yourself to others. Clearing out is good for the soul and creates space in your closet. And you can easily earn a few extra euros with the clothes. Some online platforms also offer clothing swaps. This means you can pass on your used items and receive something new in return.
