The patio weather is really on its way. But what should THE perfect terrace wine be like? It shouldn't be too powerful. It should have a wonderfully summery bouquet and a refreshing acidity. It should be easy to enjoy on its own, but it should also be able to accompany light summer cuisine. At the same time, it shouldn't be too hard on the wallet, so that you might feel like opening a second bottle with friends and family. I can think of one particular wine that meets all these requirements - the Sauvignon Blanc Winkl from Cantina Terlan.

The wine
Sauvignon Blanc is more of a "casual" grape variety with a large fan base. It is less capricious than many a Riesling or Chardonnay. You can rely on a Sauvignon Blanc of good origin. The grapes ripen wonderfully in the warm South Tyrolean porphyry soil in the vineyards around Terlan, producing a particularly fine terrace wine.
Once sniffed in the glass, you are immediately seduced - wonderfully fruity notes of passion fruit, apricot and gooseberry, but also floral notes of herbs such as mint and elderflower. You really wanted to bite into the wine. The palate is just as fruity with crisp acidity and a pleasant length. The subtle mineral notes in particular give the wine a fine freshness.
The winemaker and the region
South Tyrol is the region in Italy where there are still many cooperatives. They are known for producing wines of extremely high quality. This includes Cantina Terlan, which was founded in 1893 and is one of the leading wineries in South Tyrol. Today it has 143 members, who together cultivate 165 hectares of vineyards in the best locations.
South Tyrol itself is known to many as a tourist destination and is very popular with us Germans. It is also unique that you can experience so much in one region, whether winter vacation or summer vacation with hiking. Always under the protection of the Alps. Mild climate. South Tyrol also has a lot to offer in terms of cuisine. Viticulture has a long tradition and offers a wide range of wines from the diverse soils and microclimates.
Perfect with
Asparagus dishes, goat's cheese, smoked salmon, summer salads with a subtle vinaigrette and sushi
