Although baking powder was invented as early as 1850, it did not find its way into many households until around 50 years later, when August Oetker began selling the white miracle cure in small sachets as baking powder. However, pharmacies also sell larger containers (kilos for around 10 euros). It's worth it, because baking soda can do much more than just make cakes rise, as you can see here.
Cleaning dishes
If washing-up liquid and the like fail to deal with stubborn incrustations, sprinkle a layer of baking soda on the affected areas, mix with warm water to form a thick paste and leave to work. Then scrub clean with a sponge or toothbrush. To remove tea or coffee stains in your favorite cup, sprinkle half a bag of baking powder or baking soda, add water and leave to work well. Then put in the dishwasher or rinse thoroughly by hand.

Remove stains

Getting rid of grease stains

Polishing silver
Place tarnished cutlery or tarnished dirt in a bowl of water and add one tablespoon of baking soda per liter of water. Leave to work for an hour, then polish briefly with a cloth.
Cleaning drains
Expensive special agents are unnecessary for blocked drains. It is better to simply pour a bag of baking soda down the dry drain and immediately pour half a cup of vinegar down it until it foams. After a few minutes, rinse everything clean with warm water.
Brightening grout
Put baking soda on a cleaning cloth and scrub clean in no time at all.
Foot bath
A regular foot bath with baking soda and sweaty feet will no longer be an issue.
Neutralize odours
Does the fridge smell? Sprinkle half a bag of baking soda on a plate and leave for a few hours: It binds the odors. Baking soda also helps with smelly shoes. Leave on overnight and tap out. A teaspoon of baking soda, a teaspoon of lemon juice and two cups of hot water make a fragrance spray for the toilet. Garbage can, drain, litter box smell? Simply sprinkle a few teaspoons of powder. This neutralizes the smell and everything smells nice again.
Repel aphids
Mix a little baking soda with water in a spray bottle, shake well and spray the affected plant parts thoroughly every two days - until all aphids have been completely removed.
Refresh the bouquet
Baking powder in the vase? Yes, it keeps the flowers fresh.
Descaling water
A pinch of baking soda in the coffee filter softens the water and enhances the aroma - for perfect coffee enjoyment.
Tip: baking soda is a sodium salt and the main ingredient in baking powder. You can use baking soda for many applications in the same way as baking powder.
