Women leave the fork behind when eating fries
Who would have thought it: every third woman in Germany eats her fries exclusively with her fingers when they are served at home. 83 percent of men enjoy their fries with more style and bring the golden sticks to their mouths with a fork. When buying frozen fries in the supermarket, both men and women agree: both sexes prefer to put the classic fries shape, which has been around for 100 years, in their shopping carts. But fluted fries and crispy thin fries are also popular with Germans.
Enjoy consciously: Oven replaces deep-fat fryer
Whether as a side dish, main meal or snack between meals, French fries are very popular with Germans. In every second German household, the tasty potato sticks are served for lunch and/or dinner (54%). When German households invite friends over, whether for a child's birthday party, dinner or celebrations such as a golden wedding anniversary, 32% of Germans like to prepare frozen chips for their guests. For almost 70 percent of Germans, the oven is the ideal choice for preparing frozen chips: they can be prepared quickly and tastily there. The deep-fat fryer has had its day, as only 22% of Germans still deep-fry their little favorites. 10 percent of respondents say they cook their frozen fries in the microwave or on the grill.
French fries should taste like home
Local products are very popular with Germans: according to the survey, a good 70% of Germans do not want to do without the special taste of German potatoes in their French fries. It is important to almost one in two Germans (48%) that the potatoes for their chips were harvested and processed in Germany. 26% of fries lovers look very closely at the packaging when buying frozen fries and opt for fries made exclusively with potatoes from the region.
The latest GfK survey shows that French fries are popular in German households and that consumers are also increasingly looking at the origin of the potatoes used to make frozen French fries when shopping in stores,
says Manfred Wulf, Managing Director at "Agrarfrost". Germans simply appreciate it when the chips taste like a piece of home.
