Manufacturers often only specify a storage time of two to five days for opened juice bottles and cartons. If these products are well refrigerated and not contaminated, they usually last longer. Under no circumstances should you drink straight from the carton or bottle to prevent the juice from fermenting. It is best to reseal the opened product immediately after pouring and put it back in the fridge quickly. The juice can then be consumed for up to 14 days. Sour juices have a longer shelf life than sweet juices. Bubbles, cloudiness and mold are easier to detect in a glass bottle. Juices from cardboard packaging should therefore ideally be decanted into glass bottles with a tight seal. Cloudy sediment in clear juice (or, conversely, clear sediment in cloudy juice) indicates that the juice is beginning to decompose.
