Why plums are healthy - and delicious

Yay, it's plum season: from July to October, we can pick up plums or damsons at the market or supermarket, which some even describe as blue health balls. In fact, these fruits are rich in vitamins, minerals and trace elements, and only contain around 47 calories per 100 grams. But there are even more reasons why plums are healthy and why we should make the most of the season.

Hmm, we love plums - and they're healthy too!

So healthy: plums and damsons

They score points with vitamin A, which is good for the eyes, B vitamins for a healthy metabolism and an intact nervous system, zinc and vitamin C for a strong immune system, the cell protection vitamin E, calcium, which is important for the bones, and vitamin K, which regulates blood clotting, among other things.

Good for the blood vessels and against fat deposits

The substances that give the fruit its blue-violet color are also good for our health. Researchers believe that they can slow down ageing processes in our blood vessels and prevent fatty deposits. They are said to be able to prevent high blood pressure and high cholesterol levels, among other things.

When eaten in large quantities, plums have a laxative effect. And they help against heartburn. However, they should be stewed so that the fruit acids do not irritate the stomach.
