Show your colors: What your favorite color says about your personality

Colors influence our mood and can even help us to feel better. In many cultures, colors have a certain meaning. What your favorite color is also says a lot about your personality...

Red

stands for energy. People with red as their favorite color are very enthusiastic and energetic. They see a goal clearly in front of them and want to achieve it - at all costs! They can be quite uncompromising and disregard others. They say what they think directly and bluntly, sometimes forgetting that their words can be hurtful. They also need to express their great energy physically, through sport. Standing still is the worst thing that can happen to them. If they get stuck, they can really snap.

Tip: If you are under pressure, try the cooling combination of white or dark green!

Blue

stands for relaxation, but also for practicality and mental strength. People who love blue are often talented business people and are very successful in their careers. They are also usually somewhat conservative and appreciate the tried and tested. A preference for a particularly dark blue shows particular inner strength and openness. They rarely feel insecure. If you are confronted with strong feelings, for example, you can deal with them very well.

Tip: If you tend to be melancholy, you should combine blue with orange or yellow.

Violet

stands for idealism and sensitivity. This mixture of red and blue combines opposites - the energetic red meets cool, relaxing blue. People who prefer violet have high expectations of themselves and believe in the good in people. Their sensitivity makes them receptive to everything that is mystical and mysterious. Despite this, they have a good deal of stamina and will hardly be dissuaded from their path if they are convinced of it. Their sensitive side is somewhat at odds with their need for recognition. They want to be taken seriously.

Tip: When sensitivity turns into hypersensitivity, beige or creamy white provides a little distance and more grounding.

Green

stands for reliability and perseverance. The color symbolizes life and hope. People who love green are characterized above all by their unshakeable optimism. They are practical and like to concentrate on the essentials. Daydreaming is alien to them. Not that they are cold-hearted, on the contrary, they are very compassionate. Green lovers are good friends who can listen. They are concerned about security and value a good material basis.

Tip: Depending on your mood, combine darker shades of green or a strong yellow with your favorite green. The darker green helps you to concentrate, the yellow provides more lightness.

Yellow

stands for cheerfulness, maturity and, of course, the sun. Cheerfulness is the basic mood of people who love yellow. Versatility and generosity make them pleasant contemporaries who attach great importance to tolerance. They grant it gladly and without ulterior motives, because they love their independence. Nevertheless, they are by no means selfish and frivolous. Yellow fans are good conversationalists and often give their counterparts something positive because they think so positively themselves. These people are unfamiliar with brooding and indecision. However, this sometimes leads to hasty decisions.

Tip: Sometimes lightness turns into levity - then a little earthy brown adds weight!

Brown

stands for down-to-earthness, diligence and generosity. People who love brown are earthy natures who enjoy being outdoors. They have an all-round likeable appearance and are reliable partners and friends who can provide strong support and a lot of peace of mind. They have a sense for all things useful, which is also evident in their hobbies, for example. They have a penchant for handicrafts. They are always a little suspicious of intellectual flights of fancy, excitement and hectic activity are alien to them. But they should not forget that change also has positive sides.

Tip: If the heaviness of brown becomes too overwhelming, counteract it with yellow, green or red!

White

stands for wisdom and modesty, for purity and goodness. It is neutral and therefore goes well with all other colors. In other words: you can hardly go wrong with white. That's why people who love white make an effort: they are correct, plan carefully and don't like surprises. Spontaneity suits them less. Their nature is reserved but friendly. This is how they approach their environment - without prejudice and with a firm belief in the good. This is nice, but can sometimes lead to them being taken advantage of. When they realize this, white lovers react coldly and dismissively.

Tip: choose a warm color like red or orange to go with your beloved white from time to time, it gives you energy.

Orange

stands for strength, joy and sociability. It brightens up grey everyday life and is used in color therapy to activate the immune system as well as for mental exhaustion. People who love orange have a lot of positive energy. They inspire others and infect them with their zest for life and enjoyment. Every now and then they go over the top with their optimistic nature and are perceived by those around them as loud, pushy and sometimes even boastful, even though they didn't mean it that way.

Tip: If you notice that you are overdoing it with the cheerfulness, combine orange with cool white, light cream or a shade of green.

Gray

stands for practicality, restraint and seriousness, but also for understated elegance and lasting value. At first glance, gray may seem boring. But this mixture of black and white comes in so many shades that it is anything but dull. Its neutralizing quality can give all other colors a touch of respectability. People who love gray tend to love the softer tones. They cope with everyday life with a certain equanimity that allows them to act with consideration when surprises arise.

Tip: Whenever you feel like you're becoming a "grey mouse", freshen up the grey with bold colors! It all fits!

Black

stands for dignity and significance, appears unfathomable and fascinating, but also a little threatening and heavy. People who love black believe that it always fits. For them, it means concentrating on the essentials. They want to be taken seriously, appear serious and keep a low profile. Respect and success are very important to them. They are loyal, faithful and reliable in both their professional and private lives. But behind the black are also self-doubts as to whether life is really all about fulfilling duties and striving for success.

Tip: soften the austere black with a little blue or green. But warm colors such as red or orange also work well.
