Separation
When love grows cold

The divorce rate in Germany has been falling for several years: from almost 50 percent at its peak in 2005 to just over 43 percent in 2014. Of course, many relationships without a marriage certificate also break up. What does a break-up mean for those affected? When is it unavoidable? And what chance might there be in a new beginning? idee für mich is there to help you with all these questions - whether you have to go through the end of a relationship yourself or you want to help a friend.
When the break-up makes you ill
A world often collapses for couples who are faced with the shambles of a relationship - including for the partner who takes the decisive step and ends the togetherness. The person being left, on the other hand, is overwhelmed by feelings such as pain, despair and anger, at least in the early break-up phase, which also manifest themselves physically: Loss of appetite and insomnia as well as circulatory problems are common consequences, as is escaping into alcohol.
Of course, children are particularly affected by a break-up, as they often blame themselves for the end of their parents' relationship. The little ones are unable to understand why mommy and daddy no longer love each other and fear that they too may no longer be loved. Unfortunately, problems at school and with friends are not uncommon for children who are separated.
Separation can also be an opportunity
But as hard as a separation is, in many cases it is also a real opportunity to make your own life worth living again. If all he does is keep quiet and all she does is shout, it's time to think seriously about a fresh start. And this can actually have a liberating effect: declutter your home, review your circle of friends, pay more attention to your own wishes and needs. But also reflect, and not just on what the other person has done wrong. Your own mistakes should not be neglected in an analysis - this is the only way to avoid repeating the same missteps next time.
Idea for me offers real advice in difficult times: Can a relationship still be saved? What do I need to bear in mind when separating and what misconceptions are circulating about divorce? Maybe our tips won't make a separation any easier. But idee für mich is a shoulder to lean on!
