The smell of coffee is in the air
Coffee from a roastery for 40 euros a kilo? You can also get good taste for little money. Because when it comes to aroma, even cheaper varieties can score points. Mrs. Vekic, for example, swears by filter coffee from Dallmayr (approx. 12 euros per kilo). "My absolute favorite brand. It reminds me of my youth because my parents always had this coffee at home." The millionaire also relies on tried and tested beef.
Meat from the butcher she trusts
Kobe beef is considered to be the most expensive and tender meat in the world and delights gourmets. For 500 grams, they can pay 170 euros. Only cattle born and slaughtered in the Kobe region of Japan can bear this name. "Of course I've eaten it before and it tasted great," says Vesna Vekic. "But I don't need so much tam-tam. I prefer good beef from a local farmer, where I know the animals are kept in a species-appropriate way."
Delicious sushi from the supermarket
And why go to a high-end Japanese restaurant when the rice rolls with raw fish, vegetables etc. are also available in more and more supermarkets and discount stores? They are packed in plastic boxes in the refrigerated section. As far as freshness is concerned, there were no complaints in a major laboratory test. Only the fish content left something to be desired in some cases. Clear winner: the sushi from Rewe, for around 6 euros.
Fine cheeses at a low price
One of the most expensive cheeses (100 grams for around 8 euros) is French Roquefort. It matures in rock caves near the small town of the same name. Fortunately, this delicious mushroom cheese is also available in the supermarket for around 3 euros. We like to toast this with a glass of bubbly - and feel like a millionaire!
