Atopic dermatitis: The right skin care for dry skin

Millions of people in Germany suffer from irritated or itchy skin. The cause: atopic dermatitis. The skin disease, also known as atopic dermatitis, cannot be cured, but even those affected can have relaxed, supple skin. However, this requires care tailored to the needs of dry skin.

Feeling good in your own skin: With the right skin care, this is also possible with neurodermatitis.

What does the skin need for atopic dermatitis?

During an atopic dermatitis flare-up, very itchy, dry skin usually leads to scratching, which in turn leads to inflammation. But it doesn't have to get that far. Lipids (fat) and moisture help to combat skin dryness. It is therefore also important to prevent moisture loss.

Adapted skin care can also reduce the discomfort of itching caused by neurodermatitis. The active ingredient polidocanol in particular has a pleasant itch-relieving effect.

In addition to scratching, other external factors also affect the skin: warm water, clothing and sweat, for example, can worsen the skin condition. In order for the skin to withstand such attacks, even with atopic dermatitis, it is important to strengthen the skin barrier. This natural protective shield can be supported with active ingredients such as panthenol and bisabolol.

4 tips for skin care for skin prone to atopic dermatitis

As a chronic skin condition, atopic dermatitis is a constant companion. However, the skin problems associated with it do not have to be. If you follow the following tips, you can still feel good in your skin.

  1. Cleanse gently: As cleansing with water dries out the skin, frequent contact with water should be avoided. Apart from water, some cleansing substances can also damage the skin. Gentle cleansing products that are already moisturizing and soothing are therefore preferable. After cleansing, the use of a moisturizing toner is recommended. This helps to strengthen the skin's protective layer and increase skin hydration. Lipid loss can be compensated for with creams and lotions containing lipids.
  2. Moisture and lipids: Atopic dermatitis sufferers have a constant need for care as their skin suffers from a lack of moisture and lipids. Both can be supplied to the skin with skin care products. These products ideally contain moisture-binding ingredients such as urea or glycerine.
  3. Strengthen the protective shield: The skin's own defense against harmful environmental influences, the skin barrier, is weakened in atopic dermatitis. However, this can be remedied with barrier-strengthening skin care. The aim of a skin care product is also to mimic the skin's protective shield.
  4. Do not irritate: The sensitive skin with atopic dermatitis reacts to a variety of environmental factors. If possible, these should be avoided in everyday life. For example, you can wear a soft cotton sweater instead of a rough wool sweater. Allergens are also possible triggers. A test by a dermatologist can determine whether these are responsible for a flare-up.
