Sales parties: What rules apply?

The Prosecco and canapés are ready, the jewelry is beautifully draped on the table - the girlfriends can come. Sales parties are becoming increasingly popular. According to the German Direct Selling Association, sales are worth 1.8 billion euros a year. However, attending these sales parties is associated with a diffuse pressure for many: Do I always have to buy something there? A resounding no. But often people are persuaded by the psychologically trained consultants to buy something they don't need. And what do you do then? We have put together a few tips.

Sales parties are very popular. But what do I need to bear in mind?

What should a hostess consider in advance?
It is better to leave the selling to a consultant. After all, if you offer goods as a host yourself, you are legally an independent commercial agent, must register a business and are theoretically liable for VAT. However, the small business regulation usually applies here. This allows you to earn up to 17,500 euros per year. Trade tax is due from an annual profit of 24,500 euros.

What about the right of return?
If you buy something at a sales party, you can cancel the order within two weeks without giving reasons. The seller must expressly point this out at the party. If he does not do this, the right of withdrawal is extended to one year. Complaints can also be made to the consultant. Hosts who sell themselves not only bear the risk of being stuck with returns. They are also liable for product defects and must contact the business partners from whom they made the purchase. This can be particularly difficult if the suppliers are based abroad.

Who really earns from sales parties, or can you also save money?
The companies that offer their goods through consultants definitely save on fixed costs for business premises and staff. Nevertheless, bargains are rare at the parties. It is therefore better to find out about comparative prices in advance before you strike in a champagne mood.
